Martha Edwards
Martha Edwards, 75, of Marble Falls, died Oct. 28, 2010. Born in Amarillo on Feb. 4, 1935, she was the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Sullivan) Edwards.
When she was born, she weighed just 4.5 pounds and had a wonderful mother who took diligent care of her.
She was raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School.
She was like a second mother to her little brother and a sister to her great-aunt Pearl Marchant of Amarillo.
She married Bill Edwards in 1953 and was a devoted and loving wife for more than 57 years. She was very supportive while he served 21 years in the Air Force, including three tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
They ran Mount View Camp in Spicewood in the early to mid-1970s and worked together as he started Bill’s Lock & Key in Marble Falls in the late ’70s.
During these years she also worked as a telephone operator, in retail services, bookkeeping, property management, and keypunch operator and materials manager for Gould Electronics.
She was always positive and saw the glass as half-full. She was willing to help those in need. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very artistic and did painting, ceramics, sewing and cake decorating.
Survivors include children Don Edwards of Amarillo (and currently living in Marble Falls) and Sherry Edwards Garrett of Amarillo; brother Mike McCracken and wife JoEllen of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren, all of Amarillo; and eight great-grandchildren, all of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her son Billy, who died at age 3.
The family will have a private memorial service.
