Nola Champion Morgan
Nola Champion Morgan, 97, of Buchanan Dam died May 18, 2010, in Kingsland. She was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Dripping Springs to J.W. and Sadie Champion.
She wore many hats during her life, relatives said, from her early days as a housekeeper for a women’s dormitory at The University of Texas at Austin to retirement from the Internal Revenue Service.
She and her husband moved to Lake Buchanan in 1978 after their retirement and lived a full second life.
They acquired a new extended family and traveled freely to see their children and grandchildren.
She made friends easily and loved card games and dominoes. After losing her husband of 51 years in 1989, she continued to enjoy her travels and kept a bag packed just in case.
She spent her last couple of years at Kingsland Hills Care Center, where she was loved dearly. She rewarded her caregivers with her knitted dishcloths and lots of hugs. Her greatest pride came from being the matriarch of her large family.
Survivors include sister Norma Carson; daughters Pat Combs and husband John, Jackie McCormick and husband Bobby, Kay Clardy and husband Earl, and Hurschia Wigley and husband Richard; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; H.B. Morgan; son Billie Morgan; daughter Jane Champion; granddaughter Shi Ann Perry; two brothers; and one sister.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. May 21 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444.
A graveside service is 10 a.m. May 22 at Phillips Cemetery in Dripping Springs with the Rev. Jerald Moore officiating.
