BURNET — Going into the opening round of the playoffs, Burnet High School head softball coach Amanda Carpenter believed her squad matched up well with Gatesville, its District 7-3A opponent.

“I believed that if we could withstand the initial surge of adrenaline, we were going to do great,” Carpenter said before the first of the best-of-three series. “The first three innings would be very important for a rookie playoff team. We should hit the ball and that could be the difference – should being the operative word.”
