LLANO — With the swing of a bat, Burnet High School senior Greg Parker spiked the hearts of the Llano Yellowjackets Friday.
Parker stepped up to the plate in the 11th inning and hit a game-winning home run for the 3-2 victory.
It was Parker’s second home run of the contest. He hit a two-run shot in the sixth inning for a 2-1 lead only to have Llano junior Dean Redden record an RBI double to tie the contest in the bottom of the inning.
The Burnet senior accounted for 3 RBIs in leading the Bulldogs (20-5, 5-0 in District 8-3A) to a season sweep of their longtime rival.
Defensively, each team’s pitching staff showed the depth their head coaches believe they have.
Burnet pitchers Emil Litterer, a junior, and John Melvin, a senior, combined for 20 strikeouts.
Llano junior Dallas Redden was credited with the loss. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, relieving senior Estevan Aviles, who gave up the other home run.
The Bulldogs will travel to face Leander Vandegrift 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the first of three games this week.
Burnet will host Liberty Hill (9-15, 3-2) 7:30 p.m. Friday and end the week with by welcoming Boerne Champion (5-4), a District 27-4A member, 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games are at Bulldog Diamonds, 1000 The Green Mile.
The Yellowjackets (17-8-2, 4-2) will enjoy a bye Tuesday before facing Vandegrift 7:30 p.m. Friday and ending the regular season against Liberty Hill 7:30 p.m. April 30.
