Bulldogs finish first round of district undefeated
BURNET — The Burnet High School baseball team extended its winning streak to six straight.
But most important, the Bulldogs (19-5, 4-0 in District 8-3A) remain undefeated in district play.
That’s because they beat Leander Rouse, 10-0, April 9, behind the power pitching of senior John Melvin (5-0), who fanned 12 strikeouts on the heels of recording 13 against Leander Vandegrift.
Senior Dillon Chafin hit a home run over the left field field to finish 2-3 from the plate.
Senior Greg Parker was 2-2 from the plate, hitting a double and a triple.
The game ended in five innings.
The Bulldogs followed that with a 12-4 victory against Pleasanton in non-district play Monday.
Sophomore Ryan Rundzieher recorded his first varsity home run.
Senior Hunter Ellett was 4-4 from the plate and scored four runs.
Parker went 2-3 with a triple, while junior Aaron Thomas finished 3-4 with a double.
Defensively, junior Jess Riley started a double play in the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs will travel to Llano today for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
