James Calvin Smylie Jr.
James Calvin Smylie Jr., 80, of Llano, died March 8, 2010. He was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Silverton to Nola Maurine (Folley) and James C. Smylie Sr. He married Joe Nell (Southern) Dec. 29, 1956, in McCamey.
He was a radio operator and worked in the oil industry. He also co-owned Town and Country Meat Center and owned Highland Park Bakery, both in Snyder. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an elder.
He also was a veteran, serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of Llano; daughters Sue Ann Daywalt and husband Mike of Stafford, Va., and Elaine Gomez and husband Rey of Marble Falls; sons James W. Smylie and wife Julie Anna of Lumberton, Glenn S. Smylie and wife Mary of Poteau, Okla., and John C. Smylie and wife Stacey of San Antonio; sister Eva Jean Bell of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Buddy and Ben Smylie.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300.
A military graveside service is 10 a.m. Saturday at the Llano City Cemetery, with the Rev. Harvey Klee officiating, followed with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rich Lounsbery officiating.
