The Marble Falls High School theater program wrapped up its one-act play season with a silver-medal performance.
The troupe performed scenes from “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 5A one-act play state contest April 30 at the Hartfield Performing Arts Center in Round Rock. The Marble Falls team was one of eight that advanced to the state meet. Four teams performed April 30 and the remaining ones on May 1.
The UIL announced the results May 2.
Marble Falls’ one-act play came in second behind Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest High School’s performance of scenes from “Rabbit Hole.”
This is the second state contest in a row for Marble Falls. In 2019, the school’s troupe performed scenes from “The Storm in the Barn.” The state contest was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
In individual honors, Marble Falls’ Easton Jones earned a spot on the state All-Star Cast for his performance as Edward Tulane. Tess Linderman was named to the honorable mention state All-Star Cast for her roles of Nancy, Lucy, Sarah Ruth, and Doll.
With the silver medal, the Marble Falls one-act play finishes the season ranked No. 2 among 260 Class 5A one-act teams.
Students dedicated their state performance to teacher Jon Clark’s father, Morris “Moh” Everett Clark, who passed away April 27, three days before the contest. Clark’s dad was a senior at Marble Falls High School in 1958, the first year the school’s one-act play advanced to the state competition. Though the elder Clark wasn’t a member of the one-act troupe that year, he was a big supporter throughout his life.
