Dripping Springs def. Marble Falls 7-25, 9-25, 17-25 on Oct. 9

DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Lady Tigers remain the team to beat in District 25-4A play, earning their 34th victory this season, with a straight set win against Marble Falls on Oct. 9.

RECORDS: Marble Falls is 14-15-1 overall and 0-8 in District 25-4A as of Oct. 10. Dripping Springs is 8-0 in district play.

SUBVARSITY RESULTS: Marble Falls junior varsity lost 15-25, 23-25. Marble Falls freshmen lost 13-25, 9-25.

BURNET — The Lady Dawgs took a step toward the playoffs by sweeping the season series against the Lady Badgers on Oct. 9.

ON OFFENSE: Kills – Sarah Poe 11, Riley Scott and Cassidy Connally 4 each; assists – Danielle Lindley 19, Deniese Hawkins 3; aces – Mariah Qualls 3

ON DEFENSE: Blocks – Jill Rosow 2.5; digs – Connally 14, Bond 6

RECORDS: Burnet is 7-20 overall and 3-3 in District 8-3A.

SUBVARSITY RESULTS: Burnet junior varsity won 25-10, 25-10. Burnet freshmen won 25-11, 25-15.

Faith Academy def. Waco Vanguard 3-2 on Oct. 9

WACO — The Lady Flames earned a crucial road win in dramatic fashion, head coach Todd Still said. Faith won the first, fourth and fifth sets with the final score in the last set 18-16.

The Lady Flames swept the season series against Vanguard and control their own destiny for a playoff berth, Still said. Faith has most improved on their attacks, he said, especially in setting and hitting.

TOP PLAYERS: Senior Sarah Mason Thomas. “Her serving is solid as a rock. She leads the team in aces and places the ball on the court where they’re not returnable,” Still said.

ON OFFENSE: Senior setters Rebekah Graham and Kentlee Cozby. “They continue to improve. They cover the court extremely well,” Still said.

ON DEFENSE: Junior middle blocker Kristen Cherry. “She has proven to be a legitimate middle blocker. Her defense at the net is good,” Still said.

QUOTABLE: “It puts us one step closer to accomplishing our goals to to be in the playoffs,” Still said.

RECORDS: Faith is 3-5 in District 4-2A.

Llano def. Brownwood 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 on Oct. 9

BROWNWOOD — Though the Lady Jackets took a 2-0 lead, the Lady Lions seized control of the third set for an 11-3 advantage Oct. 9.

“The entire game we played slow and sluggish,” head coach Shawn Sweeten-Meredith said. “And we managed to dig deep and pull it out in three, when it would have been easier to chalk Game 3 up to a bad game and move onto Game 4. We pushed hard.”

ON OFFENSE: Kills – Cierra Jordan 14, Jessica Wunderlich 10; assists – Cheyenne Swenson 22, Amanda Morgan 7

ON DEFENSE: Blocks – Morgan and Lacey Redden 3 each; digs – Cierra Caffey 13, Jordan 12

QUOTABLE: “I wished we had played the entire match like we did the latter part of Game 3. However, it was wonderful to see us find a way to win,” Sweeten-Meredith said.

RECORDS: Llano is 16-19 overall and 4-2 in District 8-3A.

SUBVARSITY RESULTS: Llano junior varsity (8-13, 1-4) lost 22-25, 11-25. Llano freshmen (9-15, 1-4) lost 13-25, 10-25.

Marble Falls 8th C finishes third at tourney

KYLE — The Lady Mustangs finished a recent tournament with a 2-1 record. Marble Falls beat Miller’s B team 12-25, 25-18 and 15-13 for third place after defeating Barton 15-8, 15-7. The Lady Mustangs lost to Lockhart 11-15, 12-15.

“It was so exciting, and I’m so proud of the girls,” coach Jillian McDonald said.
