Strength-and-conditioning company in Marble Falls this summer to get Mustangs in shape

MARBLE FALLS — Performance Course, a strength-and-conditioning company out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has reunited with Marble Falls High School head football coach and athletic director Todd Dodge to conduct the summer conditioning program for the Mustangs.

Dodge made the announcement during his Mustang Football Family Night March 21.

He also introduced Geno Pierce, Performance Course owner and president, and Performance Course coach David Granson, who moved to the area to oversee the Mustangs.

But Dodge and Pierce, who is a certified strength-and-conditioning specialist, emphasized Performance Course isn’t just a program for high school football players. The company also has programs designed for the Lady Mustangs as well as younger athletes.

Each day during the summer, Performance Course will have four sessions starting with boys in grades 10-12 working out at 7-8:45 a.m.

Girls in grades 6-12 will follow from 9-10:30 a.m. with boys in grades 6-9 working out 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Students in grades 6-12 can work out from 6-7:30 p.m.

The Monday-Thursday program is June 11-Aug. 2 but skips the week of July 2-5. Total cost is $200.

Pierce said there’s a 10-to-1 ratio of athletes to coaches in the program.

“We’re incredibly excited to offer this program,” Pierce said. “I think from our perspective it’s really affordable. Very seldom will you go to camp this extensive for $28 a week or $3.50 an hour.”

He added the organization will work with families on payments if they need to.

Performance Course coaches also will chart each athlete’s progress, the owner said, so parents can see how their child is improving.

Dodge worked with Performance Course while he was the head coach at Southlake Carroll, guiding the Dragons to four state titles and one state runner-up finish in five years.

“In the time we had those great runs, (Performance Course) trained all of our players that whole time,” Dodge said. “In the fall, (my athletes) were absolutely ready to play football, not getting in shape.”

Pierce said three of those athletes — NFL quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Greg McElroy and Major League Baseball pitcher Aaron Luna — started in the program when they were in elementary school.

Performance Course works with 25 schools in the Metroplex and has trained 15 state champions in 13 years, including Southlake Carroll, the 2011 Class 5A Division I state champion, and Aledo, the Class 4A Division II state champion, Pierce said.

“If you want to play at a level others can’t handle, you have to train at that level,” Dodge said.
