BURNET — Both the Lady Dawgs and the Lady Jackets volleyball teams earned wins Sept. 21 before heading into District 25-3A play.

Burnet High School defeated Boerne 28-26, 23-25, 25-23, 29-27, while Llano High School swept Ingram 25-20, 25-17, 25-16.

The Lady Dawgs (15-12) were led by senior outside hitter Kristen Spinn, who had 13 assists and 18 digs. Senior outside hitter Kati Maldonado added 10 kills and 25 digs.

The Lady Jackets (4-24) were led by senior outside hitter Cierra Jordan with 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Senior middle blocker Victoria Calzoncit and senior outside hitter Jessica Wunderlich each added eight kills, while senior setter Paige Friedrich recorded 27 assists and 11 digs.

“It feels good to win one,” Llano head coach Shawn Sweeten-Meredith said. “Llano played with intensity and determination. We were even behind some throughout the match and found the internal fortitude to close the gap and then win. This was a great win to begin district.”

District play starts Sept. 23.

The two teams will face each other at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at Llano High School, 2509 Texas 16 South in Llano.
