Lady Mustangs win close match against Llano
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team has lost its share of close matches. And so has the Llano High School squad.
So when the two met Sept. 13, most fans expected a close match. They weren’t disappointed.
The Lady Mustangs (14-11) did just enough to earn the 25-22, 25-19, 25-22 victory against the Lady Jackets (3-24).
“You never know what to expect from Llano,” Marble Falls head coach Julie Downs said. “They’re always very competitive, always hustle a lot. And that’s what we expected them to bring, and that’s what they brought. I think we did a good job of serving. I wish we had done a better job of executing our offense.”
The Lady Mustangs raced to a 7-1 lead in the opening set just to see Llano fight back for a 19-19 tie and a 21-21 tie.
But after a timeout, Marble Falls won four of the next five points and ended the set on a kill by junior outside hitter Hayley Fishbeck.
The second set was much of the same with neither team having more than a two-point lead.
