MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team only needed 90 minutes to dispose of San Antonio Cornerstone Academy on Aug. 23.

The Lady Mustangs (9-6) won 25-18, 25-12, 25-14.

The squad began the match with a 9-0 run and ended the opening set on back-to-back aces from junior Catie Whitecotton.

Marble Falls began the second game in a 1-3 hole. But a spike by junior hitter Kiara Etheridge off a quick set tied the game, and a hitting error gave the Lady Mustangs the lead at 5-4. They never looked back.

Cornerstone had another fast start in the final set before junior hitter Hayley Fishbeck recorded a kill and teamed up with junior middle blocker Jessica Winn for a block to get the team going. Marble Falls won 17 of the next 23 points to reach match point.

However, two errors and a Cornerstone block forced Marble Falls into a timeout during which head coach Julie Downs told her athletes it was time to close out the match.
