MARBLE FALLS — As school districts across Texas grapple with budget woes, local booster clubs are stepping in to help provide resources for athletic and extracurricular programs.

The Legislature has slashed $4 billion from state education funding, which means departments are facing cuts or at the least no increases to their budgets.

The Marble Falls Independent School District is no exception.

For that reason and more, the Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club is preparing to fill in the financial gaps by helping the athletic department, according to media club representative Galyn Woerner.

The club is finalizing the Mustang Card for the 2011-2012 school year, which will be available for purchase Aug. 24 for $20. The annual Blitz Day for the card is Aug. 31. That’s when high school athletes will go door to door to sell it.

The cards offer the holder discounts at several local merchants and restaurants while supporting the booster club’s activities.
