Lady Stangs named to all-district softball teams
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School softball team had seven players named to all-district teams by District 25-4A coaches.
Senior outfielder Payton Peril was named the co-Defensive Player of the Year for District 25-4A.
“I think it shows how valuable she has been in the past,” head coach Tino Salazar said. “Her batting average this year with her defense shows how well respected she is. She had the highest fielding percentage on the team and in the district.”
Joining her on the first team were senior catcher Mackinzee Mayfield, sophomore third baseman Hailey Wooten and freshman pitcher Amanda Thomas.
Second-team honors went to sophomore pitcher Alicia Macias, senior shortstop Shannon Bendas and senior left fielder Mattie Counts.
The number of Lady Mustangs honored shows the amount of respect the program has garnered, Salazar said.
“Very pleased,” he said. “It means they were recognized by the other schools. I’m happy with the results.”
He also was happy for his multi-year lettermen, noting they have made tremendous contributions to the team.
“I think a lot of it has to do with a lot of them being three-year starters,” Salazar said. “They’re easily recognized. They put up good numbers. I think we got some good games. I think (other coaches) recognized how good they were.”
