Robert Carroll Fry, 73, passed away Jan. 7, 2018, at his home in Meadowlakes, Texas, surrounded by family.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Boles and Juanita Fry.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynda; sons, Courtland Murphy and Sean Murphy and wife Sherry; daughter, Heather Fry Cussimanio and husband Tony; grandchildren, Kailey, Taryn, Morgan, Brendan, Colton, and Capriella; sister, Judy Brinck; Judy’s children, Cindy Britt and husband Eric and Robert Brinck and wife Laura; and several nieces and nephews.
Robert was born in Abilene, Texas, on Sept. 10, 1944. He was raised in Tuscola, Texas, graduated from Jim Ned High School. He furthered his education at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls and later earned a graduate degree from the SMU School of Banking.
His banking career began in Abilene in 1965 with Citizens National Bank. In 1979, he moved his family to Austin, where he joined United Bank of Texas as vice chairman and was later promoted to president. He left United Bank in 1987 and later moved back to West Texas, where he accepted the position of president at American State Bank in Big Spring. He returned to Austin in 2000 when he joined Wells Fargo Bank. He retired from his banking career in 2010 and moved to the Marble Falls area.
Robert enjoyed running, gardening, boating, hunting, training his hunting dog, Jennie, cooking out, spending time with his children and friends, and absolutely adoring every one of his grandchildren.
A celebration of Robert’s life is 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Zilker Park Clubhouse, 2100 Barton Springs Road in Austin.
