MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls High School head softball coach David Orsag spent a lot of time looking at figures during the weekend.
He drew up every scenario and possibility. And the way he figures it, his Lady Mustangs (4-5 in District 25-4A) are playing for their playoff lives Tuesday when they travel to face Pflugerville Hendrickson at 7 p.m.

And that’s because of the slipup his squad suffered in the division opener to Lake Travis, 6-5, March 19.
So while Marble Falls is playing Hendrickson, the Lady Mustangs are hoping Hutto (7-2) beats Lake Travis (3-6), which will mathematically eliminate the Lady Cavs from the playoff race.
“If we win we’re automatically third,” Orsag said. “If Lake Travis were to beat Hutto, and we lose too, we’d be tied with them.”
Marble Falls is coming off an 8-2 loss to Lampasas Friday.
The coach was pleased with the way his squad battled the Lady Badgers (9-0) for six innings.
But in the final inning, the Lady Mustangs gave up five runs after suffering back-to-back fielding errors that would have given them two outs to begin the inning.
Junior pitcher Payton Peril will be in the circle against the Lady Hawks. She led Marble Falls to the 4-2 victory against Hendrickson in the first round.
That win saved the Lady Mustangs’ season, Orsag said.
“The win over Hendrickson has just about put us in (the playoffs),” he said. “I think it gave us a bunch of things. That’s the season.”
The contest was played in the comforts of Scearce Softball Field.
Marble Falls has yet to beat Hendrickson in its home stadium, a fact not lost on the coach.
One of the reasons is because infielders have to contend with the setting sun and looking into it to make plays such as fielding the ball or throwing to first base.
“It’s so much tougher to play there,” Orsag said.
