Lady Stangs look for season sweep
MARBLE FALLS — Now that the Marble Falls High School softball team’s first wining streak of the season was snapped, the Lady Mustangs are looking for their first sweep of an opponent.
They’ll get their chance when they travel to face Killeen High 6 p.m. Tuesday. The game time has been moved up because the junior varsity game was cancelled.
Marble Falls (6-19, 3-4 in District 25-4A) earned its first district win of the season, 13-1, against the Lady Roos.
Currently, Killeen is in last place in the league.
“You have to beat teams like that,” head coach David Orsag said. “If you take them for granted, you could get in trouble.”
Marble Falls freshman pitcher Alicia Macias was credited with the win against the Lady Roos March 26, but he was not sure who would be throwing in Tuesday’s contest.
The Lady Mustangs will be entering the game following a 5-0 loss to Hutto Friday. The loss does not keep Marble Falls out of the playoffs, but it does mean the Lady Mustangs have little room for error.
“It comes down to the last ball game, depending on what Lake Travis does,” Orsag said. “To get in, we don’t have to beat (Pflugerville) Hendrickson.”
But that would be for fourth place and most likely a bi-district series against Dripping Springs, which is in first place in District 26-4A.
The loss Orsag believes may come back to haunt his squad was the 6-5 setback to Lake Travis in the district opener.
“If we had beaten Lake Travis the first time, we wouldn’t have to worry about Hendrickson,” he said.
So to keep his players focused, the coach said he told them they must treat every opponent with the same intensity.
“We said we can’t go into Killeen thinking it’s a pushover and get beat by a team that’s not as good,” he said. “We need to put them away early and go home and get ready for Lampasas.”
The Lady Mustangs will host Lampasas 7 p.m. Friday at Scearce Softball Field, 2101 Mustang Drive.
