Charlene Faye McKinney, 87, of Burnet, Texas, a former resident of Lake Jackson, died May 11, 2016. She was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Tivoli, Texas, to Charlie Rickaway and Lorena Beckmann Rickaway.

Charlene worked as an executive secretary at Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport, Texas, for 18 years before retiring with her husband, Robert “Bob” McKinney, at age 50 to live on the Colorado River near Lake LBJ.

She developed her talent as an artist and completed many beautiful paintings, primarily landscapes, but also portraits of Bob and her father. During that time, she held several offices in the Highland Arts Guild in Marble Falls, including past president. She sold some paintings but gave most of the best ones to her family, and her art will always be a loving reminder to us.

In addition, Charlene taught Sunday school at First Baptist Churche of Marble Falls and Kingsland. Charlene was foremost a great Christian mother and grandmother and a good friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Bob; and one sister at birth.

She is survived by her son, Charlie McKinney of Lake Jackson; daughter, Elise Steele and husband Eddie of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Jaclyn Steele Myers, Collin McKinney, Catherine McKinney Adams and husband Laramie, Caroline McKinney and Mark Steele and wife Kara; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Myers.

A graveside service to inter the ashes of Charlene and Bob and favorite cat Gus will be held at a later date in Tivoli.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1137, Kingsland, TX 78639; or the American Cancer Society.
