Nora Elizabeth Alderson Lacy, 92, died April 27, 2016
Nora Elizabeth Alderson Lacy was born Aug. 20, 1923, and died April 27, 2016, at the age of 92.
Nora and her husband, Jim, operated R.E. Janes Gravel Co. in Abilene and raised their daughter, Carolyn.
Nora was an avid bowler in her younger years. She loved to go hunting and fishing in Colorado with her husband each year and tour the United States in the summers.
She had many accomplishments such as receiving her GED at the age of 41. After living in Abilene for many years, upon her retirement from R.E. Janes Gravel Co., she moved to Mansfield to be closer to her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and begin new careers and interests. She enjoyed traveling abroad to Japan, Spain, London, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany and loved to take the “red eye” to Las Vegas to play the slots and return home on the 4 a.m. “red eye” the next morning.
She was a business owner of a women’s retail clothing store, a convenience store and a trucking company at different times in her life. Nora was a risk taker. She lived her life happily, independently and energetically one day at a time.
Nora also cared deeply about her family, and she had a large family to care about. She was totally devoted to her sisters and brothers, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nora found great purpose in life helping Lisa, her granddaughter, take care of the four great-grandchildren. Her unselfishness was experienced by most of the members of the Alderson family throughout her life. She will be greatly missed!
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Davis of Burnet; granddaughter, Lisa Corbin and husband Dennis of Mansfield; four great-grandchildren, Jake McCabe, Preston Corbin, Allyson Corbin and Kendall Corbin, all of Mansfield; brothers Joel Alderson and wife Nila of Smithwick and Archie Alderson and wife Verna Mae of San Antonio; sisters Ethel Tucker of Burnet and Ruth Goble of Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Russell Lacy; grandson, Patrick Meriney; sisters Ruby Green and Lyda Mae Green; and brother Damon Alderson.
A funeral service was May 2 at Edgar and Jenkins Family Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet, (512) 756-4444, with interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Burnet. Go to jenkinsserves.com to offer condolences.
