Lucille Arnold PhillipsLucille Arnold Phillips, 94, of Burnet, Texas, passed away March 3, 2016, in Kerrville. She was born in Italy, Texas, to Thomas Franklin and Penelope Levonia Arnold on Sept. 14 1921. She married Alvis B. Phillips on Nov. 17, 1945.

Lucille and her siblings were orphaned in 1931 and fortunate to be accepted into the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco. She graduated from Waco High School and attended Texas Tech University.

She worked in health care at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lubbock until she became a full-time homemaker.  Lucille and Alvis Phillips worked and raised their children growing cotton on their farm in Hockley County. The couple moved to Burnet in 1975.

Lucille never turned away from someone who was in need; she was always the first to respond with a helping hand and a loving heart.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis B. Phillips; brothers, Frank, Louis, Leroy, Ozy and Arnold; and sister Annie Belle Wallace.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Nelson; sons, Hal Phillips, Ronald Phillips and Donald Phillips; sister Clara Harris; grandchildren, Mike and Jeff Nelson, Shelly Nelson Workman and Holli Phillips Duddles; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, T.J., Harper and Kate Nelson, Riley, Kaylin and Kinley Workman and Piper and Kendyl Duddles; and numerous friends, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service is 11 a.m. March 9 at Hoover Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Dwayne Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park near Burnet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco (www.mch.org), which continued to have a large and positive influence on her life.
