BURNET — Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Keith McBurnett is inviting the community to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with him Feb. 11.

His “Coffee and Tea with the Superintendent” is 8 a.m. at the BCISD Parent Resource Center, 208 E. Brier.

This event will be similar to the seven other community forums he hosted since he became the superintendent four years ago.

McBurnett said he believes in transparency and accountability, and the forums are one way of being accessible to residents.

“I try to communicate in lots of different ways,” he said. “I just don’t think anything can replace good old-fashioned face-to-face conversation.”

He hopes a morning forum will encourage more people to attend.

“Maybe people on their way to work or dropping off kids can come and join us for conversations,” he said.

Attendees will write down questions, and McBurnett will read them and give his answers to the audience.

“One of the real benefits is having their questions and hearing their conversations and adding to it,” he said.

Later in the month, McBurnett will be a featured speaker during the State of the Community event, which is 11:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Burnet Community Center, 401 E. Jackson St. Lunch will be served at noon.

“That’s going to be a pretty thorough overview,” he said. “I didn’t want to do a full-blown state of the district (before Feb. 24).”

Mojo Coffee is providing the coffee and tea, and people will be treated to pastries at the Feb. 11 event.

“It’ll be very informal,” McBurnett said. “It’s very much a come-and-go event. We’ll be there with a few words and conversations.”
