John Robert “Bob” Sonderegger Jr., my husband of 51 years, passed away on Dec. 2, 2015.

As a former journalist and Facebook blogger, he had many friends and readers across the state of Texas.

He was born in Seattle on May 22, 1943, to J.R. Sr. and Virginia Sonderegger. The family settled in Houston when he was 3 years old. In 1961, he graduated from Spring Branch High School, where he started his career in journalism as a sports writer for The Bear Facts.

He then went on to East Texas State Commerce because of its excellent journalism school under the leadership of Dr. Jack Bell. Eventually, he was editor of The East Texan and contributor to The Locust.

He was a member of the Press Club and Sigma Delta Chi and traveled with the athletic teams, getting stories and keeping stats. He was also a member of Delta Tau Delta.

On Oct. 26, 1962, he had a blind date with a girl from Dallas. Shortly after, we were known as a couple, and on June 6, 1964, we were married at St. Thomas Aquinas in Dallas. Robert and I then started on our fantastic adventure across Texas that lasted 51 years through many stops.

Those who preceded him death were his parents, Bob and Virginia Sonderegger; in-loves, Raymond and Margaret Frazier; brothers Charles and Stephen; and many aunts, uncles and cousins from both families.

Survivors are his wife, Nikki Frazier Sonderegger; children, Katy and spouse Steve, John, and Jay and spouse Vanessa; grandchildren, Alton and spouse Madison, Danielle and fiance Jake, Austin, Nomi and Reagan; great-grandchildren, Conner and Evelyn Marie; sister, Ginger and spouse Dave; and brother Ernie and spouse Gayla.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Dec. 19 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 105 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls. It is easy to find: Turn at the Dairy Queen and go toward the high school and stadium. You will pass by the church.

One of Bob’s greatest accomplishments was that he demanded girls UIL sports events were covered by a reporter and printed in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Because of this, every paper in the state of Texas followed the Star-Telegram’s lead, and now girls in sports have a voice.
