DRIPPING SPRINGS — The Marble Falls High School football team lost 38-10 to Dripping Springs on Sept. 25 to fall to 0-2 in District 25-5A.

“I love our kids, we’ll continue to battle,” Mustangs head coach Matt Green said. “We’re going to keep preparing, and we’re going to keep working with them.”

The Tigers built a 21-0 lead in the first half thanks to turning two of three Marble Falls turnovers into touchdowns.

The first touchdown came after the Mustangs punted. Dripping Springs junior running back Teo Brinckman ended a six-play drive with a 10-yard touchdown run. The drive covered 46 yards in 96 seconds for a 7-0 lead.

The second touchdown came after the Mustangs threw an interception.

Senior receiver Ethan Ferea caught the 26-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Reese Johnson. The four-play drive covered 27 yards in 86 seconds for a 14-0 advantage.

The final score of the half came on an interception.

Sophomore quarterback Collin Berzsenyl hit sophomore receiver Reed Beverly for a 20-yard score. The four-play, 35-yard drive was finished in 25 seconds for a 21-0 halftime lead. That score came with nine seconds remaining in the second quarter.

The last two touchdowns also were on fourth downs.

Four minutes into the second half, the Tigers had scored two touchdowns.

The first one was courtesy of senior running back Bobby Credeur who scampered 55 yards for the score. The two-play, 68-yard drive took 42 seconds to finish for a 28-0 lead.

The Tigers’ last touchdown came off an interception.

The three-play drive was all sophomore running back Joshua Embry, who scored on a one-yard run. He had runs of 39 and three yards in the 59-yard drive for a 35-0 lead with 8:12 remaining in the third quarter.

Marble Falls scored its touchdown in the fourth quarter when junior running back Sam Harkins caught a 43-yard pass from junior quarterback Cade Cool. The three-play drive covered 68 yards in 61 seconds to trim the deficit to 38-7 with 8:46 left in the game.

Then kicker Gavino Tinajera connected on a 23-yard field to end the scoring and make it 38-10. The eight-play drive covered 35 yards in 3:25.

Green said Dripping Springs is a good team and credited the Tigers for taking advantage of opportunities from turnovers.

“I thought our defense played really well through the first half,” he said. “Offensively, we’re really banged up. We had a lot of kids playing tonight who never started. We had too many mistakes. We have to eliminate the turnovers.”

The Mustangs have an open date Oct. 2.

“We’ll work and keep trying to eliminate turnovers and get better,” Green said.
