AUSTIN — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team lost 49-0 to Austin St. Andrew’s on Aug. 28 to begin the 2015 season.

Head coach Randy Denton said the Flames (0-1) faced numerous obstacles on both sides of the ball:

• players are still learning the spread offense;

• players are still working on rapport with each other;

• St. Andrew’s had a team that is more seasoned in its schemes right now.

“I think it’s all of that,” Denton said. “St. Andrew’s was good. But we didn’t tackle well. We found ways to shoot ourselves in the foot.”

The Crusaders defense turned three interceptions into touchdowns.

“Offensively, we continued to put the defense in bad situations,” Denton said.

And St. Andrew’s blocked a Faith field-goal attempt after it took 7-0 lead.

“It’s all around,” Denton said. “At the time, we could have gotten points on the board and closed the gap.”

The Flames will continue to work on the spread offense, he said, noting it’s about repetitions right now.
He doesn’t believe the style of offense is the obstacle; rather it’s more about execution.

“We made the wrong decisions,” he said. “Too many times that killed us. It’s a drastic change, but we have the athletes to run the spread.”

Faith plays its home opener against Boerne Geneva at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at Pony Stadium, 1511 Pony Circle Drive in Marble Falls.
