KERRVILLE — Online registration has begun for the Texas Lions Camp, a summer camp serving children ages 7-16 with physical disabilities, Type 1 diabetes and cancer.

The facility is located on more than 500 acres outside of Kerrville.

The goal of Texas Lions Camp is to help children become more independent, productive adults. Counselors are assigned to each group of campers and escort them throughout the session, teaching and encouraging the youth while meeting their special needs. The programs are intended to develop qualities such as improved self-image, social adjustment and self-reliance.

Services are offered to campers at no charge.

Eligible children include — but are not limited to — those who are hearing impaired, deaf, visually impaired or blind or have a missing limb, birth defects, cerebral palsy, arthritis, muscular dystrophy, cancer, asthma, heart conditions or other ailments. One camp session is for children ages 12-16 with Down syndrome. Two sessions are provided for children ages 8-15 who have Type 1 diabetes.
