FROM STAFF REPORTS

HORSESHOE BAY — The Highland Lakes chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association is inviting all local Red Raiders to an event Nov. 8 to celebrate two longtime supporters of the university with the creation of an endowment scholarship in their name.

The association is holding the Bob and Billie Black Endowed Scholarship Fund Kick-Off at the Horseshoe Bay Resort’s Whitewater Putting Course, which is located adjacent to the resort at 200 Hi Circle North. The event includes golf and other activities from 4-6 p.m. followed by social time and food from 6-7 p.m. Then, the Highland Lakes TTU alumni will honor the Blacks with a program from 7-8 p.m.

The Blacks have been strong supporters of the university and the alumni association for many years. They regularly held Texas Tech Red Raider Round-ups at their ranch near Horseshoe Bay to help raise scholarship funds.

Now, the Highland Lakes chapter of the Texas Tech Alumni Association is hosting the event to recognize the Blacks and their commitment to Texas Tech as well as announcing an endowed scholarship in their names.

Mackenzie White of Marble Falls, who is this year’s Masked Rider at Texas Tech, and the horse Fearless Champion will be attending the event, which makes for some great photo opportunities.

Tickets for the event are $50 for adults and $20 for children ages 7-12. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Admission includes putting course activities as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres. A cash bar will be available.

Officials ask people to purchase tickets or RSVP by Nov. 1. Go to www.texastechalumni.org and look under the events heading for “TTAA-Highland Lakes Bob & Billie Black Endowed Scholarship Fund Kick-off.”
