GATESVILLE — The Burnet High School girls cross-country team won its first meet of the season Sept. 18.

The Lady Dawgs scored 27 points in the Class 1A-4A division of the Bill Bradley Invitational, while the boys were fourth out of 12 teams. In all, the Lady Dawgs had five runners in the top 10 and three in the top five for the victory. The girls varsity race drew 10 teams.

Abby Bullock was the individual gold medalist, clocking 12 minutes 47 minutes, while teammate Autumn Freasier picked up the bronze in 13:09. Jordan Boyles was fifth in 13:16.

“A perfect score is 15, so they had very strong showing,” Burnet head coach Stuart Dixon said.

Nick Menchaca paced the boys, finishing 16th in 19:02.

“This meet was a great confidence boost for our teams,” Dixon said, “and, hopefully, we can carry this momentum throughout the rest of the season.”

RESULTS: Boys varsity (3.1 miles; 88 runners) — 16, Nick Menchaca, 19:02; 21, Trevor Turner, 19:36; 31, Jordin Belmarez, 20:09; 35, Reid Burton, 20:19; 37, Tanner Abbott, 20:20. Boys junior varsity (65 runners) — 10, Cole Younger, 21:30; 41, Caden Farrell, 23:19.
