MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls High School senior Tyler Oppenheim committed to play softball for Texas A&M University-Commerce on Aug. 17.
“It was a great opportunity,” she said. “I love the campus, I love the coaches. It’s all I could ask for. To go there was a dream come true.”
Oppenheim has been the starting shortstop for the Lady Mustangs for two years. But playing for the New Braunfels Bombers, a select team, gave her more exposure, she said. That’s how coaches at Texas A&M-Commerce found her, she said.
While she has mostly played in the infield for the Lady Mustangs, Oppenheim said she also can move to the outfield.
The daughter of Kim and Allan Oppenheim plans to major in criminal justice with a possible minor in art to be a sketch artist.
“I’ve always had an interest in it,” she said.
Texas A&M-Commerce is a member of the Lone Star Conference, an NCAA Division II athletics program.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of friends and family,” the shortstop said. “I’ve had such support from all the coaches I’ve had. They’ve made me love the game.”
