ROCKWALL — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team lost 73-62 to Rowlett-Rockwall Christian Academy on Feb. 19 in the bi-district championship.

The Flames’ season ends in the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Facing a 20-point deficit headed into the final period, the Flames began to rally.

“But we just ran out of time,” Faith head coach Randy Denton said.

The two teams played to a 15-15 tie at the end of the first quarter, but Rowlett-Rockwall Christian Academy outscored the Flames 25-6 in the second quarter for a 40-21 lead at the half. That lead was 55-35 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Then, the Flames started their late-game rally.

“We started handling the pressure better,” Denton said. “We settled down and made a comeback.”

Foul trouble haunted the Flames during the second half, he said.

Still, Denton said there’s plenty of reasons to be happy with the season.

He credited the seniors for their leadership and work ethic.

“They did a great job of leading us,” he said.

Also, the way the Flames came back in the fourth quarter showed next season’s returning players what they’re capable of, he added.

“The younger guys learned not to give up,” he said. “We were relatively young. We have talent. We can be better next year.”

ON OFFENSE: Points – Lucas Wright 21, Reagan Vaughn 18, Brian Freeman 11

RECORD: Faith ends the season 12-13 overall and 6-4 in District 4-2A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
