MARBLE FALLS — Residents will soon get a glimpse of the city’s namesake, thanks to a planned lowering of Lake Marble Falls by the Lower Colorado River Authority.
LCRA Spokeswoman Krista Umscheid said the drawdown of the lake will begin Jan. 5, and eventually reduce the lake’s level by about nine feet.
The lowering will be enough for residents to spot the natural limestone formation near the U.S. 281 bridge that gives the city its name.
“(The lowering) will be over a six-week period,” Umscheid told The Daily Tribune. “The refill will begin around Saturday, Feb. 14 and take about two days to complete.”
Umscheid said LCRA crews will dredge about 2,000 cubic yards of material from the lakebed while repairing a number of retaining walls, boat launches and other structures.
Many of those repairs are left over from the June 2007 flood, she said.
“Residents who want to dredge, clean up debris or repair retaining walls will be able to do so, but will need a permit prior to doing any work,” Umscheid said. Officials will release permit information in the coming weeks, she added.
The drawdown is the latest in a series of planned drawdowns of the Highland Lakes. Earlier this year, LCRA officials lowered Lake LBJ about 10 feet for several weeks while crews dredged the lake bottom and conducted repairs.

User Representations and Warranties You represent and warrant that:

No Compensation You understand and agree that you will receive no compensation for the submission or use of your Submitted Content.

Termination and Removal Company may, in its sole discretion, edit, refuse to post, or remove any Submitted Content at any time without notice. This Agreement survives any termination.
Governing Law This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Burnet County, Texas.
Entire Agreement This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements. Modifications must be in writing. By submitting content, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.
