LAKEWAY — The Burnet Middle School eighth-grade green football team lost to Hudson Bend, 9-0, Oct. 21.

“This was a hard game for both the green and white teams,” coach Ken Bauer said. “Both teams combined lost four players to season-ending injuries.”

The first drive of the game went to Hudson Bend, which controlled most of the first quarter.

The Burnet defense did not give up any easy runs or passes the whole first half, Bauer said.

Great plays by B.J. Walker, Zach Bobo, Cody Nodecker, William Kyle, Spencer Ray, Colton Rockafellow and Aaron Bostic kept the Buccaneer offense in check, coaches said.

The Bullpups were able to force a turnover on downs and get the ball back deep in Burnet territory.

However, the Bullpups, which have been plagued by the turnover bug all year, coaches said, turned the ball over via a fumble and Hudson Bend had great field position.

But the defense was up to the challenge, Bauer said.

Chris Reyes, Blaine Schilling, Shawn Chambers and Faron Nichols had outstanding plays to hold Hudson Bend to a rare field goal.

The Burnet defense did a great job most of the night, coaches said.

“We gave up a long run in the third quarter after we pinned them deep on a Rockafellow punt,” Bauer said.  “Ronnie Dean had a spectacular game and stepped up and provided a spark for the Bullpups with an interception and a tipped ball. “

Offensively Burnet was able to move the ball, but a few turnovers ended long drives and prevented the Bullpups from scoring.

The Bullpups will travel to New Braunfels Thursday to take on Mountain Valley.

This will be the final contest of the season.
