The city of Burnet’s Municipal Court Administrator recently earned the highest clerk certification in the state, joining a small, prestigious group of administrators across Texas who have reached the same level of achievement.

During a Tuesday, Oct. 27, Burnet City Council meeting, Heather Sutton was congratulated on joining the Texas Court Clerks Association’s Level III Certified Clerks List, of which only 167 people have achieved in the state.

Fellow level III clerk Tracy Ventura presented Sutton’s certification to the council, touting the rigorous nature of the achievement.

“Out of approximately 3,000 clerks in the state of Texas, only 167 earned the distinction of becoming a level III certified clerk,” she said. “It’s a true testament to the dedication and professionalism to obtain this.”

Ventura explained that clerks may only receive level III certification after completing 40 hours of continued education, passing several tests, attending clinics, observing 40 hours of courtwork, and journaling experiences.

“This is pretty amazing considering everything that’s had to go on,” City Manager David Vaughn said of the achievement. “It’s an outstanding accomplishment… and we’re very proud of Heather.”
