Construction of a new elevated water storage tank in Bertram is rapidly progressing, with large sections of the structure being erected throughout October.

The tank, designed as a modern concrete water tower, was contracted out by the city for more than $3.43 million in May 2025. The project is intended to strengthen the city’s limited water supply and is part of a broader, multimillion-dollar effort to modernize Bertram’s water and sewer infrastructure.

In recent years, the city allocated substantial funding for water and sewer improvements. Bertram’s 2026-27 budget includes more than $11.6 million in expenditures for various projects.

City officials provided a brief update on the water tank during the Oct. 13 City Council meeting, highlighting the visible progress along Texas 29. Officials also discussed the near-completion of another nearby water project–the new lift station.

“If y’all hadn’t noticed, when you’re driving down (Texas) 29, the big water tank is finally being built,” Mayor John Baladez said. “And then the lift station over there is looking great.”

Bertram Utility Director Adam Lambert reported progress on the lift station, noting its primary construction was essentially complete.

“The lift station is coming along good; the main part of it is done,” he said. “It’s ready to turn on the pumps, and we’ll be good.”

The lift station was contracted out in November 2025 for approximately $2.3 million.
