The Pedernales Electric Cooperative is accepting applications through Nov. 12 for its 2027 Youth Tour, an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for local high school students.

Each year, PEC selects students to join about 1,500 of their peers from across the country on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour. Participants visit historic landmarks, meet elected officials, and learn about government and public service.

Marble Falls High School senior John Alan Whittle, who participated in last summer’s trip, described the experience as life-changing.

“When I found out I was selected to represent PEC on Youth Tour, I knew it would be a unique opportunity,” Whittle said. “Looking back, calling it unique feels like an understatement, because it was genuinely a life-changing experience.”

Applicants must have completed their sophomore, junior or senior year of high school by June 2027 and have a parent or legal guardian who is a PEC member in good standing. Applications require a short-answer response, resume and adult reference.

Semifinalists will be invited to in-person interviews Jan. 14, 2027, before final delegates are selected for the June 15-23 trip.

Applications and additional information are available on PEC’s website.
