After sunset: Nightlife in the Highland Lakes

Good times don’t stop when the sun sets on Central Texas. Music drifts from patios, lights flicker along the waterfront, and friends settle in for long evenings of sipping, dancing, and chatting. Whether you’re looking to chill out, turn up, or get down, the nightlife of the Highland Lakes has you covered.

All aboard!: Wind through the Hill Country and history on a steam train

Looking for a one-of-a-kind angle on the Hill Country? The Austin Steam Train Association offers a suite of themed train trips through the most beautiful parts of Central Texas, including a simulated ride for would-be desperados and outlaws.

The train departs from Cedar Park and takes various routes to Bertram and Burnet depending on which ride you sign up for. The slow ride is a journey to be soaked in with family, friends, and fellow travelers.

Get to know Bertram: This small town is packed with Highland Lakes experiences

Bertram may be best known for its Oatmeal Festival, historic Globe Theatre, and small-town charm, but those are only a few pieces of the puzzle that makes the Hill Country hamlet worth a visit. Behind the curtain of the quaint downtown lies a history steeped in railroad commerce, a strong backbone of locally-owned businesses, local artists, good food, and stunning scenery.

Located in the no-man’s-land between Burnet and Liberty Hill, Bertram could be mistaken as a pass-through town, but those who are eager enough to slow down and smell the wildflowers will find plenty to do.
