The Llano River is expected to reach moderate flood levels early on the morning of Friday, Oct. 2, following heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to the National Weather Prediction Service, the Llano River at the Llano Dam will rise over 16 feet between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday. The rapid rise is due to several inches of rain that came down across counties farther to the west, like Kimble and Mason.

While Llano County itself has seen 2-4 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, some Lower Colorado River Authority rain gauges in Kimble and Mason counties show 4-7 inches of rain in that same timeframe.

While the river will likely see moderate flooding, no serious damage is expected. Some low water crossings, like the Kingsland Slab Road, may be closed until waters recede.

Llano and Burnet counties are under a National Weather Service flood watch until 7 p.m. on Friday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Saturday and possibly Sunday according to current NWS forecasts.
