The Marble Falls and Burnet Consolidated independent school districts are collecting canned and non-perishable goods for a good cause this October, benefitting local food pantries across the Highland Lakes.

According to MFISD staff, each district will be hosting its own, independent food drive this year in place of the annual Battle of the Cans, which pitted the districts against each other in a battle to collect the most goods for charity.

MFISD campuses will face off in a district-wide version of the Battle of the Cans, running Sept. 30-Oct. 14, collecting canned meats, soups, and vegetables, boxed goods, and condiments to benefit The Helping Center, St. Frederick’s Baptist Church, and The Cupboard at Cottonwood Shores.

The campus that collects the most donations will be recognized during halftime at the Oct. 16 Battle of Burnet County football game versus Burnet.

Burnet High School classes will face off in their own food drive, running Sept. 29-Oct. 23, collecting canned goods to benefit LACare.

The class that collects the most cans will win gift cards to Dairy Queen.

BCISD will also have a donation box set up during the annual Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 21 for any residents looking to donate extra canned goods before the collection ends.
