A 3.7-mile stretch of Texas 29 between Bertram and Liberty Hill is now under construction.

On Monday, Aug. 17, DailyTrib staff observed that highway improvement work had begun on the portion of the roadway, which runs from RM 1174 in Bertram to the Williamson County line, just west of CR 322.

Commuters should expect the roadway to be regularly closed down to one lane on each side with a temporary center turn lane, and expect reduced speeds in some areas. An exact timeline for the project was not available by the time of this article’s publication.

Additional construction along Texas 29 between Burnet and Bertram has been underway since late 2025, aiming to widen the roadway to five lanes with a 12-foot center turn lane and 5-foot shoulders.

That project has similarly shut down portions of the highway to one lane on each side with a small turn lane in the center, and reduced speeds to 55 mph.
