Making Lye Soap & Doing Laundry on the Farm

Just because it’s 1918 doesn’t mean that we don’t stay clean!
Roll up your sleeves and let’s get to work making soap and washing laundry at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm at LBJ State Park.
Learn the steps of how to make lye soap using lye and lard and then help with scrubbing clothes on a washboard.
This program will be come and go, from 10 a.m. to around noon, and open to all ages. Be sure to check in at the Visitor Center first then head over to the farm.
Lye soap making will start at 10 a.m. and go until all the lard & lye has been converted into soap. Science!
