Northwest of Austin lies beautiful ranch land in Lampasas and Burnet Counties with scenic Colorado River frontage, spring-fed creeks, dramatic cliffs and canyons, and a ridgeline that is home to an uncommon stand of post oaks. This area will be the site of  Post Oak Ridge State Park, and the new Superintendent Kacey Sloan will present the highlights of this developing park at Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society’s June 4th meeting.  Also presenting will be Superintendent Glenn Dee, who will take us on a virtual tour of the beautiful Colorado Bend State Park. Visitors marvel at beauty of Gorman Falls, cool off in Spicewood Springs, fish or paddle the river, take a cave tour, and test their limits on 35 miles of hike and bike trails at this lovely park.
HLBWS’s presentation will be Thursday, June 4, at Burnet County AgriLife Extension, 607 N. Vanderveer, Burnet. Doors will open at 9:30 for social time and light refreshments; the business meeting will follow at 10:00; and the presentation follows at 10:30. Visitors are always welcome!
The pre-meeting bird walk at Haley Nelson Park, 200 Garden Trail will begin at 8:00 a.m., weather-permitting.
