Horseshoe Bay Police Department offers house watch program

Horseshoe Bay residents who leave town for vacations or extended periods can take advantage of a police department program designed to provide extra security while they are away.

Through the Horseshoe Bay Police Department’s house watch program, residents can notify the department before leaving and provide important details about their property, including the dates they will be gone, vehicles expected to remain at the home, authorized visitors, and any other information officers should know.

That information is entered into a database used by patrol officers, who routinely check participating homes during a resident’s absence. Officers look for signs of potential issues, including broken windows, vandalism, or unauthorized activity.

According to Acting Police Chief Paul Nelson, officers may visit properties several times a week, and in some cases daily, depending on call volume and available resources.

“It’s a nice thing that we can offer to the public,” Nelson told DailyTrib. “We take pride in this program. It’s a way to connect with the community.”

The program is available to Horseshoe Bay residents who live in the city full-time, defined as residing in the city for more than six months each year.

Once residents return home, they can contact the department to remove their property from the active house watch list. Their information remains in the database, allowing the process to be completed more easily the next time they leave town.

Residents interested in signing up for the house watch program can call the Horseshoe Bay Police Department’s non-emergency line at 830-598-2633 or complete the online form and drop it off at the police station located at 1 Community Drive.
