The Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center’s Good Neighbor Thrift Store is joining the nationwide effort to raise awareness of domestic violence and show support for survivors on Purple Thursday, Oct. 16.

Everything in the store, 502 RR 1431 in Marble Falls, on Thursday will be 50 percent off, and customers who wear purple will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card.

“Purple Thursday is about standing with (domestic violence) survivors and showing that our community cares,” said Janessa Hardaway, director of Community Impact & Development at the Crisis Center, in a media release announcing the event. “The Good Neighbor team has gone above and beyond to create a welcoming space that not only supports our programs, but also encourages kindness, awareness, and connection.”

The nonprofit Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center provides free and confidential support, such as emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and counseling, to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Burnet, Llano, Blanco, and Lampasas counties. The thrift store helps fund its mission.

“This cause is close to our hearts,” said Good Neighbor manager Christina Lewis. “We wanted to create something meaningful that helps people understand why we wear purple—and remind everyone that every donation, purchase, and act of kindness here helps survivors in our own community.”

Purple Thursday is part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. The day falls on the third Thursday of the month.

The HLFCC invites the community to join the movement by wearing purple Oct. 16 and tagging the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center and Good Neighbor Thrift Store on social media to help spread awareness and show support for survivors.
