The Falls on the Colorado Museum in Marble Falls invites the public to a special program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, when local photographer Martelle Luedecke will announce the winners of the “Waterscapes of Central Texas” photo contest.

The 12 winning and 12 runner-up photos will be featured in the museum’s 2026 calendar, which will be on sale at the presentation. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit museum.

Luedecke will offer insights on the contest theme, which was chosen when the Highland Lakes community was suffering from a prolonged drought.

“The museum wanted to raise awareness of the fragility of our area’s water source so that conservation is always at the forefront of our minds,” said Falls museum Chair Darlene Oostermeyer in a media release about the Sept. 20 presentation.

Major flooding over the Fourth of July weekend refilled the lakes, but drought conditions persist, according to experts.

“We older Texans remember a comment attributed to meteorologist Isaac Cline in the 1930s: Texas is a land of eternal drought interrupted occasionally by biblical floods,” Oostermeyer said. “A 2026 museum calendar on your wall will help us all keep a focus on water conservation and the importance of water in our community. As a fundraiser for the museum, it will also help us bring more great exhibits to the community.”

During the presentation, Luedecke will also share her perspective on how photographers can creatively explore themes like waterscapes through the lens of a camera.

“We’re excited to showcase the amazing work of local photographers,” Oostermeyer said. “The presentation and reception are not only a chance to announce the winners, but also to reflect on the artistic process behind the images.”

Winners of the photo contest were selected through a combination of public voting (50 percent) and judging (50 percent).

The exhibit featuring all contest entries will remain open for public viewing after the reception for an additional two weeks.
