Gustav Emmett Lechow
Gustav Emmett Lechow, 73, of Marble Falls died July 24, 2010, after a short battle with liver cancer. He was born in Austin Oct. 6, 1936, to Beryl Mae Fowler Lechow and Gerhard Gustav Lechow.
He was an entomologist for Delta Crop Dusting while at Texas A&M University, a salesman for Wayne Feeds in Austin and a math teacher at Marble Falls Middle School.
He spent 20 years as an educator with the Marble Falls Independent School District.
He graduated from Texas Technological College in 1958 and Texas A&M in 1963. He loved raising horses with his brother-in-law Buddy Fowler for pleasure, rodeo and racing.
An avid hunter and fisherman, the Colorado and the Pedernales rivers were constant draws for fishing trips for many years. He instilled a love of fishing and hunting in his sons and their friends.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive.
He was a proud "Papa Gus" to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marie Fowler Lechow of Marble Falls; sons Lance Lechow and wife Betsy of Liberty Hill, Larry Lechow of Dripping Springs and Coy Lechow and wife Lisa of Liberty Hill; grandchildren Tara and husband Steven Luke, and sons Martin and James of Burnet, Neeley and husband Charles Travis, and their daughters, Aidan, Alexis and Emma of Burnet, Renise Lechow of Burnet, Jason Blassingame and wife Lisa of San Antonio, Katie Busbey and husband Noah and their daughter Lilly of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Kacey Dawn and Kalyn Marie Lechow of Liberty Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Samantha Faye Lechow.
A visitation is 6-8 p.m. July 27 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.
A service is 11 a.m. July 28 at the Methodist church. Burial follows at Marble Falls City Cemetery.
