The Highland Lakes Squadron – Commemorative Air Force is hosting a hangar dinner and dance next month, flying back in time for a 1940s-themed evening of fun surrounded by historic aircraft. Tickets are on sale now on the Highland Lakes Squadron’s website here.

The event–featuring live music, catered dinner, complimentary beverages, and a silent auction–will run from 6:30-10 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Highland Lakes Squadron hangar, 2402 S. Water Street.

Proceeds from the event will support the longtime-hangar’s daily operations, which include restoring vintage planes, running its historic aircraft museum, participating in flyovers, hosting community events, and bringing warbirds to the sky during the annual Bluebonnet Air Show.

“The Highland Lakes Squadron is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that has been part of the Burnet community for 35 years, preserving military history,” reads a city of Burnet Facebook post about the event. “Come out, have a great evening, and support a longtime part of the Burnet community.”

The dinner and dance is the first of what is expected to be several events hosted by the squadron in the coming months, following the Burnet City Council’s decision to renew its hangar lease for another year in September.

The squadron’s future in Burnet had been uncertain as it struggled to generate enough revenue to justify occupying one of the city’s largest hangars at Kate Craddock Field. However, a renewed effort by squadron leaders and the city to strengthen the organization’s finances and operations, and a council-mandated requirement to host at least eight events per year, could help secure its long-term future in Burnet.
