Want to run for Marble Falls City Council? Filing window Jan. 14-Feb. 13
Three seats on Marble Falls City Council are up for grabs in the May 2 election. Anyone interested in filing has from Jan. 14 to Feb. 13 to apply.
The available seats are:
-Place 1, currently held by Councilor Griff Morris
-Place 3, currently held by Councilor Lauren Haltom
-Place 5, currently held by Councilor Richard Westerman
Council info
The Marble Falls City Council is made up of seven total members–six councilors and one mayor– who are elected by city residents to represent them at the municipal level.
These are unpaid, volunteer positions. City Council members serve two-year terms and gather for regular meetings twice per month.
While the day-to-day operations of the city are handled by a professional city manager, the council is responsible for hiring the city manager, setting policies, guiding the direction of the city, appointing members of various boards and commissioners, creating the city budget, setting the city tax rate, and collaborating with city administration.
Applicant requirements
To be eligible to serve, applicants must:
-Be a registered voter of Marble Falls
-Have resided within the city limits for at least one year prior to the election
-Not have any past-due payments with the city
-Not hold any other publicly elected office
-Not be an employee of the city
How to file
To file for candidacy, submit an application online or in person to the Marble Falls City Secretary’s Office at City Hall, 800 Third Street in Marble Falls.
