Residents of the far flung Burnet County community of Joppa are putting on the first annual Joppa Community Christmas Village on Sunday, Dec. 14.
The festivities run from 3:30 p.m. to dark near the Joppa Church at 8425 CR 210 with a Bertram address.
The Christmas village experience is free and open to the public. Expect wholesome holiday activities, decorations, hot cocoa, cookies, carols, and hay rides.
In the past, the Joppa community has celebrated Christmas with the decorating of the historic Joppa Bridge, but that tradition was dashed by the Fourth of July weekend flooding that devastated Central Texas this past summer. The beloved bridge was destroyed in the deluge, bringing an end to the community fixture’s 118-year history.
“In spite of our beautiful historic Joppa Bridge being swept away last July, the flood did not steal our Christmas Spirit,” reads an excerpt from the Joppa Community website.
