It’s Week 9 of the 2025 high school football season, and Highland Lakes teams are hoping to earn a spot in the playoffs. Marble Falls has a bye week, Burnet takes on Brownwood, Faith Academy of Marble Falls looks to continue its hot streak, and Llano returns from a week off.

Here are the Oct. 24 matchups:

Burnet Bulldogs vs. Brownwood Lions

KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Bulldog Stadium, 1401 N. Main St. in Burnet

PREVIEW: Listen to an interview with Burnet head coach Ben Speer in a weekly segment on KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune: In the Bulldogs Huddle.

LAST WEEK: Lampasas 28, Burnet 23

Burnet (3-5 overall, 1-1 district) plays its third District 4-4A Division I game against Brownwood (4-3, 1-0) on Friday.

Last week, the Bulldogs lost a close contest to the Lampasas Badgers (7-1, 1-1), but head coach Ben Speer saw it as a perfect example of great high school football.

“You love having a chance in the end to win it,” he told KBEY 103.9 FM’s Ben Shields. “It was just a slugfest—Friday night atmosphere at its best.”

Speer sees possibility in this week’s game against Brownwood. The Lions beat Lampasas by a thin margin, 42-39, in the final minutes of the two teams’ district contest, and Speer thinks the Bulldogs can get a victory if they play their cards right.

“This is a very winnable game for us,” he said. “They beat Lampasas on a last-minute touchdown, and we were right there with Lampasas, so it was a good matchup for us. It’s at home, it’s our Senior Night, and it’s a special game for (the seniors), and they’ll be playing their best.”

The Bulldogs and the Lions had a very close game when they played in 2024, with Brownwood winning 31-30 in overtime.

Faith Academy Flames vs. San Marcos Academy Bears

KICKOFF: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: San Marcos Academy Football Field, 2801 RR 12 in San Marcos

LAST WEEK: Bye week

The Flames (6-1 overall) play the San Marcos Academy Bears (1-6) for their first Division 2 District 4 game in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Faith had a bye last week, but won its last game, 70-48, against the Founders Classical Academy Archers (6-1) on Oct. 10.

The Flames beat the Bears 40-33 when they played in 2024.

Llano Yellowjackets vs. Randolph Ro-Hawks

KICKOFF: 7 p.m. Friday

WHERE: Jacket Stadium, 400 Texas 71 East in Llano

LAST WEEK: Bye week

The Yellowjackets (6-1 overall, 2-0 district) take on Randolph (2-5, 0-2) in a District 13-3A Division I game Friday night. Llano did not play last week, but won its previous game 53-0 against Luling (0-6, 0-2) on Oct. 10.

The Yellowjackets beat the Ro-Hawks 27-26 in their 2024 matchup.
