Longtime educators Marti and Kyle Futrell were awarded the 2025 Excellence in Education Award by the Marble Falls Independent School District and Marble Falls Education Foundation.

The award recognizes MFISD educators whose dedication, service, and leadership make an extraordinary difference in the lives of students, teachers, and the community.

“We are excited to recognize the Futrells with this award,” said MFISD Superintendent Jeff Gasaway in a district media release. “Both Kyle and Marti Futrell have embodied the district vision of loving and inspiring students to achieve their fullest potential throughout their careers in Marble Falls, both in the classroom and outside of the classroom.”

Marti Futrell taught in MFISD for 33 years, shaping the academic and personal growth of countless students with her dedication, compassion, and love for learning.

Kyle Futrell spent 31 years in the classroom, teaching math, technology, teen leadership, and health education. He was also an influential coach. As the Marble Falls High School football team’s offensive line coach for 25 years, he helped lead the Mustangs to the playoffs and even a state semifinal appearance. He was the head coach of the high school’s track-and-field program for 30 years, producing several district championships, collegiate athletes, and even an Olympic silver medalist.

However, the Futrells’ legacy extends beyond teaching and coaching. Marti Futrell missed only three Mustangs football games in three decades, faithfully supporting her husband’s teams and players. Together, they have inspired countless young people, who are now raising families of their own in Marble Falls. Since retiring, the Futrells continue to serve, volunteering at district athletic and fine arts events, mentoring students, and giving back to the community. Their daughter, Kyleigh Ann, is a Marble Falls High School graduate, and Kyle and Marti are “Coach” and “GM” to grandchildren Anderson and Zoe.

The Futrells were recognized for their achievement during the Marble Falls football game against Devine at Mustang Stadium on Oct. 3.

“Marti and Kyle Futrell are the kindest, most loving people,” said Marble Falls Education Foundation Director Jeanna Jette. “Their pride in this community and their love for the Mustangs shines through in everything they do. They have given their hearts to Marble Falls, and our district is stronger because of the Futrells.”
