John Ray Dodson was born on December 22, 1927, in Williamson County, Texas, and passed away on September 27, 2025, in Bluffton, Texas. John was born to Roy and Barbara Dodson.

He worked as a carpenter most of his life. He loved working with his hands and making anything that he needed, too. He retired from DPS wood shop in Austin, Texas, many years ago. Building his home on Lake Buchanan and moving to the lake was a dream come true. Being a carpenter, he built his house with no builder but with family and friends.

He loved fishing, especially crappie fishing, so for John to be able to walk out his back door and fish was very relaxing and rewarding to him. If you ever looked for John, you could find him fishing from his dock in his backyard or at Hi-Line dock in Tow. He could spend all day with the fishing pole in his hand. He was an avid gardener, too: from tomatoes to okra to his favorite, watermelon and cantaloupe.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Tiney Dodson; parents, Barbara and Roy Dodson of Marble Falls; sister Merle Martinka of Marble Falls; daughters Darnell Martin and Shirley Butler; and grandsons Ruben Dodson, John Henry Dodson, and Troy Copeland,

John is survived by son James and Nelda Dodson of Liberty Hill; daughter Darlene Dodson of Kingsland; son-in-law Harry Sherwood; stepdaughter Dora Faye McKinney of Cedar Park; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many other friends and acquaintances.

A graveside service is 10 a.m. October 2, 2025, at the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.clementswilcoxfuneralhome.com.
